Healing Narratives:
A Therapeutic Book Club

Sponsored by Invigorate Learning Center

Healing Narratives is a community offering creating space for those interested in continuing their self exploration through reading. Books are a rich resource in therapeutic healing, and when combined with community they can be a powerful aid in the healing process.

This book club might be for you if:

  • You connect with the themes and concepts of the book chosen for the month.
  • You benefit from talking through therapeutic concepts.
  • You don’t have access to therapeutic services, and want a space led by a licensed therapist to better understand yourself through reading.
  • You’re looking for a space where others are experiencing similar challenges to validate and understand you.
  • You enjoy reading and want to develop personal insight.
Come join us to discuss how these narratives help inform our therapeutic work — we’d love to have you!

FAQs

Are books provided?

No. Books can be purchased by the participant, rented at the library, or found on Spotify, Audible, or Libby if an audiobook is preferred.

What is the cost?

We offer a payment scale so that you can make a payment that works best for your budget. When you register for the book club, select the payment option that works best for you. If the provided payment options are out of your financial resources, please inquire for scholarships by emailing Devin at devin @ ilifecounseling.com.

What is the reading schedule?

There is no reading schedule for this book club. You read at your own pace, and we meet once for each book. Come ready to discuss the book in its entirety.

What if I didn’t have time to finish the whole book?

That is completely fine! As long as you are open to discussing with the other participants there is no need to worry if you didn’t have time to finish.

Who will be attending the group?

Healing Narratives is open to anyone willing to have a respectful conversation about the topics and themes identified in the books relating to their self-awareness and self-improvement.

I’m a therapist myself, can I join?

Of course! As a community offering, anyone who is willing to respect the vulnerabilities of others is welcome to join: therapists, those currently or previously attending therapy, or even those who have never participated in therapy before. Having a diverse group of individuals always contributes to the discussion, so please don’t hesitate to attend if you are interested!

More Questions?

We would love to hear from you! Reach out to the facilitator, Devin Hendrickson, MSW, LICSW at devin@ilifecounseling.com. PLEASE NOTE: *Though hosted by a licensed mental health clinician, this is not a substitute for psychotherapy or group counseling. You will be asked to complete a brief survey after registration to ensure that this group is appropriate for you.
